Safari Overview

On this 11 days Rwanda wildlife safari, you will experience all the 4 prime Rwandan national parks. You will start with the  Nyungwe forest national park and end with the scenic Akagera national park. 

Enjoy the different backdrops of Rwanda as you turn along the winding roads. The parks are a mixture of Savannah, forest, and mountainous giving you varied sights of Rwanda. From Elephants, Zebras to Chimpanzees including boat rides on Lake Kivu are some of the highlights on this safari and cultural encounter.

Visit Rwanda, Africa's home to some of the last remaining mountain gorillas and a place where you will be warmly welcomed by smiling locals. Rwanda has bravely risen from a tragic past and stands proudly as a representation of Africa's irrepressible beauty. Be awe-struck by the profound power of the endangered mountain gorilla.

Trekking to find the gorillas can be a challenging and long hike. You will spend only one hour with the gorillas. There is an option to pre-purchase another gorilla permit to visit the gorillas on both days 7 & 8. This is one of our Short Breaks and is slightly different to our group tours. There is no group leader but rather a local guide with the idea being that you maintain a level of independence during down time. You'll most likely travel on a join-in basis, which means you may or may not be joined by others for activities and transportation, depending on demand.

DAY 1

Arrive in Kigali

Arrive in Kigali. Upon arrival, you will be welcomed by your dedicated, professional, English-speaking, driver-guide/tour leader, who will transfer you to your hotel where you stay overnight and meet the rest of your party, with breakfast included (approx. 30min drive and spend the first 2 days exploring Rwandan capital. Visit the Genocide emorial and take a tour around the Nyamirambo neighbourhood through a local Nyamirambo Women’s Centre

Full Day Tour in Kigali

To understand the people in Rwanda, you really have to understand their history and there is no better way to learn about Rwanda’s past than by visiting the Kigali Genocide Memorial. DAY 3

Kigali - Nyungwe National Park

Today, you will set off towards the famous Nyungwe Forest, one of the largest forests in East and Central Africa. The forest is abundant with flora and fauna including 13 primate species from colobus monkeys, mangabeys, blue monkeys and, of course, our cousins the chimpanzees. Nyungwe Forest is also a famous location for birders. With about 310 recorded bird species, 26 of which are endemic, this is one of the most important. Emeraude Kivu Resort

DAY 4

Chimpanzee trekking - Canopy Walk (Nyungwe National Park)

Nyungwe’s biggest attraction is an opportunity to trek chimpanzees, a dozen of other primate species (including the rare Colobus Monkeys), 75 species of other mammals, and hundreds of special of birds, butterflies, and insects. The park trails are well maintained and a number of guided forest walks (ranging from 1 hour to 6 hours) are available starting from one of the two ranger posts in the park.

DAY 5

Nyungwe National Park - Lake Kivu

After breakfast, hit the road to Kibuye in the beautiful lake resort of Lake Kivu. Lake Kivu is one of the greatest Lakes in Rwanda, and is in the Albertine (western) Rift valley, a part of the Great Rift Valleys. The lake is a 2650 Square kilometer freshwater expanse and the largest of all the lakes that fill the valleys of Rwanda. Spend the afternoon by the Lakeshores. DAY 6

Explore Lake Kivu on a canoe

After breakfast at your hotel, you will head for a canoe ride which will give you a beautiful sea feel as you watch over to see local fishermen and number of bird species at different corners of the Lake and later head for lunch. DAY 7

Volcanoes National Park - Mountain Gorillas

Volcanoes National Park offers the main attraction – a chance to track mountain gorillas. The park is home to 12 habituated gorilla families that can be visited for a hefty price of $1,500 per person. Those willing and able to fork out the cash for the permit will be rewarded with an incredible experience of getting up close and personal with the most majestical primates in the world. DAY 8

Volcanoes National Park - Golden Monkey

Today is a day of various trekking options. You may choose to visit another gorilla family or see the rare golden monkey. These options must be pre-booked and confirmed at time of purchase of the main tour, in order to ensure availability. Gorilla trekking permits in particular can be booked out many months in advance. For those who loved the book and/or movie 'Gorilla's in the Mist', the Dian Fossey Trek is a good option. Overnight lodge/tented

DAY 9

Akagera National Park

After a relaxed breakfast from your hotel , you head to Akagera National Park covers 2500 km² of savannah west of the Kagera River, in the north-east of Rwanda. The park has a variety of wildlife and is a habitat for over 500 different species of birds. Herds of elephant and buffalo emerge from the woodland to drink at the lakes, while you might stumble across a leopard, a spotted hyena or even a lion. overnight Akagera Game Lodge

DAY 10

Akagera National Park

In the morning after breakfast, you will go for a game drive in the park in search for wildlife. During the game drive through the Savannah grassland of Akagera national park, you should watch out for animals like the Lions, Leopards, elephants, antelopes and many more. After the game drive, you will have lunch and guided by your guide and then later n the afternoon you will go for a boat ride on Akagera River in search for water loving animals

DAY 11

Transfer from Akagera National Park to Kigali

In the Morning after breakfast at around 10am you will bid Akagera National Park Farewell and return to Kigali Airport for your flight back home.

The Tour Price Includes

  • Bottled mineral water in the vehicle while on safari.
  • Pick up and drop off at  kigali Airport.
  • Accommodation and meals per the itinerary (B=breakfast, L=lunch, D=dinner).
  • Lunch and dinner on day 1, breakfast, lunch and dinner on day 2-10 and breakfast on day 11 of your trip.
  • In case of a camping safari: camping gear like tents, camping mattresses, sleeping bags, pillows, camping chairs, etc.
  • Game drives and all park entry fees  on tour fees and service which cost nearly 60% of the total cost.
  • Transport in a 4×4 safari vehicle from your hotel in Kigali to the parks and back (other pick-up points possible, please contact us for the right price)
  • Ground transportation in a 8 setter or 6 setter 4x4 Safari vehicle with English Speaking Driver guide: -
  • 8 setter Safari vehicle has 6 windows seats (in the passenger cabin) and 1 window seat next to the driver (in front)
  • 6 setter Safari vehicle has 4 windows seats (in the passenger cabin) and 1 window seat next to the driver (in front)
  • Accommodation of your choice: from budget camping to staying in luxurious lodges, we can arrange it for you(the prices mentioned above are for overnight stays in Mid-range to high-end hotels/lodge/tented Camps according to the program, other prices are applicable for the other accommodation options).

The Tour Price Excludes

  • Meals not listed above. eg Breakfast on the first day and lunch & dinner on the last
  • Rwanda Visa cost which is 50% except for Canadian and USA passport holders which is US$100.
  • International and Domestic Flights and departure taxes (Quoted separately where applicable)
  • Optional activities and excursions (short safari/tour after your Safari can be arranged upon request at an extra cost).
  • Accommodation in kigali. If you wish, we can however assist you in finding a place that corresponds to your needs and budget.
  • Flights or other transport to kibali. We can however arrange airport pickup for you. Let us know your itinerary and we’ll make it happen!
  • Tips for the crew. We recommend a tip of 25 USD per day for your guide, and 15 USD per day for your cook, to be divided between each member of your group.
  • Inoculations and personal insurance (e.g. Rwanda Visa, Travel, Medical and Baggage insurance, A doctor for the group, Laundry, Souvenirs, Telephone, Beverages (available to purchase) and all other services that are not mentioned as included.
  • Holiday Surcharge : A supplement of US $ 40.00 per person per day will apply to all bookings on the 24th, 25th, 26th and 31 December and 1st January
  • A supplement of US $ 35.00 per person will apply to all bookings between Friday 3rd and Monday 6th April (for all 4 days) as Easter holiday surcharge.
