Safari Overview
Shira was the ‘original’ Lemosho route while Lemosho is now the ‘improved’ variation. The Lemosho route begins at Londorossi gate on the quieter western side of the Kilimanjaro. It advances through rainforest on the first two days and later passes through a scenic heath zone with an abundance of Ericas. With eight days, this is the longest route up Kilimanjaro; from the third day it runs parallel to the Machame route. It is a difficult route, but excellent for acclimatization. It is considered to be more difficult than the Marangu and Rongai routes.

DAY 1
PRE DAY: Arriving in Tanzania

Our Kilimanjaro adventure starts the Moment, on your arrival at Kilimanjaro international Airport / Arusha Airport, one of our welcoming transfer drivers will take you to your choice accommodation for the night, Rest in the afternoon or relax at the pool. Our operations team will meet you to check all your equipment and to give you a thorough briefing of what to expect on your trek.
DAY 2
Arusha (1400m) – Londorossi Gate (2100m)–Forest Camp (2750m)
After eating breakfast at your hotel, your guide will brief you on the day. You will drive two hours from Arusha (1400m) to Londorossi Park Gate (2100m). In the village near Londorossi, where you will complete entry formalities. Then drive to the Lemosho trailhead (another hour to reach the trailhead). Upon arrival at trailhead, we eat lunch, and then commence through undisturbed forest which winds to the first camp site.
DAY 3
Forest Camp (2750m) – Shira I Camp (3540m)

At Kilimanjaro Shira I Camp
We continue on the trail leading out of the forest and into a savannah of tall grasses, heather, and volcanic rock draped with lichen beards. As we ascend through the lush rolling hills and cross several streams, we reach the Shira Ridge before dropping gently down to Shira 1 camp. The view of Kibo from across the plateau is amazing.
DAY 4
Shira I Camp (3540m) – Shira II (3840m) - Moir Camp (4114m)

At Kilimanjaro Moir Camp
This spectacular camp we will be going to today is located beneath the Northern Ice Fields of Kilimanjaro. It is a gentle walk east toward Kibo’s glaciered peak, across the plateau which leads to Shira 2 camp on moorland meadows by a stream. Then we continue to Moir Camp, a little used site on the base of Lent Hills. A variety of walks are available on Lent Hills making this an excellent acclimatization opportunity.
DAY 5
Moir Camp (4114) - Lava Tower ( 4600)-Barranco Camp (3950m)

At Kilimanjaro Barranco Camp
From Moir hut, we continue to the east up a ridge, passing the junction towards the peak of Kibo. As we continue, our direction changes to the South East towards the Lava Tower, called the “Shark’s Tooth.” Shortly after the tower, we come to the second junction which brings us up to the Arrow Glacier at an altitude of 16,000ft. We now continue down to the Barranco Hut at an altitude of 13,000ft. Here we rest, enjoy dinner, and overnight.
DAY 6
Barranco Camp (3950m) – Karanga Camp (4235m)
DINNER & OVERNIGHT AT
At Kilimanjaro Karanga Camp
This is a short hiking day meant for acclimatization. After an early morning breakfast, it is now time to conquer the Great Barranco Wall! Although it may look intimating at first glance, hikers state that this Class 2 hike is usually much easier than they anticipated. At the top of the Wall, you will have a view of Heim Glacier and will be above the clouds. The trail then winds up and down in the Karanga Valley. Enjoy dinner and washing at site
DAY 7
Karanga Camp (4235m) – Barafu Camp (4600)
DINNER & OVERNIGHT AT
At Kilimanjaro Barafu Camp
After breakfast, you will begin your ascent. The trail intersects with the Mweka Route, which is the trail used to descend on the final two days. As you continue hiking for an hour, you will reach Barafu Hut. This is the last water stop for the porters because there is no accessible water at Barafu Camp (4550m). An early dinner will be served so hikers can rest before attempting the summit the same night. Here we rest, enjoy dinner, and overnight
DAY 8
Barafu Camp (4600m) – Uhuru Peak (5895m) – Mweka (3100m)
DINNER & OVERNIGHT AT
At Kilimanjaro Mweka Camp
Your guide will wake you around 23:30 for tea and biscuits. You will then begin your summit attempt. In about 6 hours, you will reach Stella Point (5685m), located on the crater rim. After enjoying the magnificent sunrise, you will continue ascending for about 2 hours on a snow-covered trail to Uhuru Peak (5895m). At camp, you will rest and enjoy a hot lunch in the sun. After eating, you will continue descending down to Mweka Hut (3100m).
DAY 9
Mweka Camp (3100m) – Mweka Gate (1980m) – Arusha
DINNER & OVERNIGHT AT
A Hotel/Lodge in Arusha
You will descend for three hours back to Mweka Gate. The National Park requires all hikers to sign their names to receive certificates of completion. Hikers who reached Stella Point (5685m) receive green certificates and hikers who reached Uhuru Peak (5895m) receive gold certificate. After receiving certificates, hikers will descend into the Mweka village for 1 hour (3 kilometers). You will be served a hot lunch then you will drive back to Arusha
DAY 10
Drop off at Arusha or JRO Airport for onward journey.
DINNER & OVERNIGHT AT
Upon request at extra cost
After breakfast, Kim’zebra Adventures & Safaris representative will transfer you to Arusha Airport or Kilimanjaro International Airport for your flight to Zanzibar {In case you will suggest to extent a tour} or to Dar es Salaam for your onward flight to your home country. Please tell us at the time of the booking for short safari after your climb eg. Zanzibar Excursion or Arusha/Moshi Day Trip.
The Tour Price Includes
- Filtered water throughout the trek.
- 3 meals daily while on the mountain.
- Transportation to & from the mountain gate.
- Access to emergency oxygen and first aid kit.
- Professional mountain guides, cooks and porters.
- Pick up and drop off at Kilimanjaro International Airport.
- Kilimanjaro certificate for your successful summit attempt.
- Camping equipment – tents, sleeping mattress and camping furniture.
- Accommodation and meals per the itinerary (B=breakfast, L=lunch, D=dinner).
- Dinner on day 1, breakfast, lunch and dinner on day 2-9 and breakfast on day 10 of your trip.
- 3-4 porters per climber, which includes porters to carry up to 30 lbs of your personal gear.
- All Park fees, Rescue fees, Camping fees, and 18% VAT on tour fees and service which cost nearly 60% of the total cost.
- Pre and after trek accommodation at the hotel, 2 nights in your chosen hotel/lodge/resort in Arusha with bed & breakfast (BB) Meal.
- Fair wages for the mountain crew as approved by the Kilimanjaro National Park Authority (KINAPA), Kilimanjaro Association of Tour Operators (KIATO).
- Luggage allowance for your main bag, that will be carried by a porter, up to max. 15 kg. To make the porter’s life easier, we however strongly recommend to limit the weight of your main bag to 12 kg. For all bags exceeding 15 kg, you will need to pay for an extra porter
The Tour Price Excludes
- International and domestic flights and departure taxes (Quoted separately where applicable)
- Meals not listed above. eg Breakfast & Lunch on the first day, Lunch & Dinner on the last day.
- Tanzania Visa cost which is 50% except for Canadian and USA passport holders which is US$100.
- Post Accommodation in Arusha / Moshi The next day after trek (Can be arranged upon request at an extra cost ).
- Optional Tours (short safari/tour after your climb can be arranged upon request at an extra cost).
- Portable flush toilet with a toilet tent is extra (US$100 per toilet + toilet tent)
- Mountain gears + Sleeping bag (can be rented, please ask us at the time of the booking).
- Inoculations and personal insurance (e.g. Tanzania Visa, Travel, Medical and Baggage insurance, A doctor for the group, Laundry, Souvenirs, Telephone, Beverages (available to purchase) and all other services that are not mentioned as included.
- Tips for the crew, which are mandatory on Kilimanjaro. The minimum amount is 15 USD per day per guide, 10 USD per cook per day and 10 USD per porter per day. We however strongly recommend a more correct tip of 25 USD per guide per day, 15 USD per cook per day and 15 USD per porter per day. All these amounts are to be divided by all group members.
- Holiday Surcharge : A supplement of US $ 40.00 per person per day will apply to all bookings on the 24th, 25th, 26th and 31 December and 1st January
- A supplement of US $ 35.00 per person will apply to all bookings between Friday 3rd and Monday 6th April (for all 4 days) as Easter holiday surcharge.
