Safari Overview

Expect the unexpected is a good rule for your game drive in Saadani. You never know what you’ll see but your guide will be looking out for land animals like elephant, lion, giraffe, buffalo, zebra, waterbuck and sable antelope and birds like the African hornbill. There’s a good chance of spotting hippo, crocodile and a selection of marine and riverine birds, including the mangrove kingfisher and lesser flamingo, on stretches of the Wami River, and although they’re usually only spotted at dawn or dusk, the beaches here are one of the last major green turtle breeding sites on mainland Tanzania. Saadani day safari trip gives you the chance to visit the only park in the entire East Africa region which border with the beach. This day trip starts and ends up in Dar es Salaam and it is suitable for travelers, school children or college students who want to explore the Tanzanian wilderness but with insufficient time. All participants for the Saadani day Safari trip will be picked up at any agreed picking points within Dar es Salaam city. Picnic lunch and pure drinking water will be organize by us except for the school children and college students who will have to organize for their meals and drinking water and our role will be only to organize for the transport and the payments of their park entrance fees.

Game Viewing Activities in Saadani: The major game viewing activities on the Saadani day Safari trip are the game drive and boat trip along the Wami River which crossing Saadani National Park flowing towards the Indian Ocean. This river host a large population of hippos, crocodiles, flamingos, and many other large bird species. Both game drive and boat safari will provides you with the highest chance to see a variety of large African mammals such as elephants, giraffe, buffalo, warthog, reedbuck, waterbuck, hartebeest, greater kudu, wildebeest, eland, sable, yellow baboon. The Saadani National Park is also boast a large population of birds and reptiles. In the mid-day your guide will show the picnic site where you will stop for some few minutes to take your picnic lunch. After the lunch you will continue with further game viewing activities in the park until later afternoon hours when you will start driving back to Dar es Salaam.

Saadani Day Safari Trip: Early in the morning at 07:00hrs we shall pick you up from the agreed picking point in Dar es Salaam to start the Saadani Day Safari Trip. The journey from Dar es Salaam to Saadani takes about 2 hours driving through the historical town of Bagamoyo. While on the way we shall pass through local villages, small town and some historical sites. The landscapes along the way are so beautiful featured by valleys, hills and the coastal plains. As we arrive at Saadani national park you we shall proceed with the game drive into the park searching for a different herds of animals. With no doubt we will be able to spot various land mammals such as elephant, lion, giraffe, buffalo, zebra, waterbuck and sable antelope and birds like the African hornbill. During this Saadani Day Safari Trip we will be able to spot crocodiles, hippos and marine and riverine birds such as mangrove kingfisher and lesser flamingo along the Wami River. The beaches of Saadani national parks are one of the major breeding sites for green turtles on Main Land Tanzania. Picnic lunch will be served on the beach and proceed with the game viewing till later afternoon then depart back to Dar es Salaam.

SAADANI NATIONAL PARK

After breakfast you’ll be picked up from your hotel in Dar and driven to Saadani Park which is about a two hour drive away. On the way you’ll be able to see local villages, historical attractions and rivers including the Wami River where we’ll get on the dirt road to the park. You’ll enjoy a picnic lunch on the beach with its white sand and sparkling clear water. If you’re a romantic bring your loved one – it doesn’t get much better than this.

The Tour Price Excludes

  • Meals not listed above.
  • Flights (international and domestic).
  • Tanzania Visa cost which is 50% except for Canadian and USA passport holders which is US$100.
  • Pick up and drop off at Julius Nyerere International Airport (JNIA) can be arranged upon request at an extra cost.
  • Accommodation in Dar es Salaam. If you wish, we can however assist you in finding a place that corresponds to your needs and budget.
  • Tips for the crew. We recommend a tip of 25 USD per day for your guide to be divided between each member of your group.
  • Inoculations and personal insurance (e.g. Tanzania Visa, Travel, Medical and Baggage insurance, A doctor for the group, Laundry, Souvenirs, Telephone, Beverages (available to purchase) and all other services that are not mentioned as included.
  • Holiday Surcharge : A supplement of US $ 40.00 per day will apply to all bookings on the 24th, 25th, 26th and 31 December and 1st January
